The Black Women Regenerative Farming Project (BWRFP) is a groundbreaking five year initiative aimed at transforming small-scale agriculture through sustainable and regenerative practices. Green Heffa Farms received a FY2022 NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) to implement BWRFP, an innovative conservation approach specifically targeting the unique needs and challenges faced by the most underrepresented of farmers for the life of the Project. Partnering with other farm partners, this project represents a powerful alliance focused on environmental stewardship, community empowerment, and agricultural innovation.

Objectives of the Project

Promote Regenerative Agriculture
Implement and showcase regenerative farming practices that restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and sequester carbon, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Empower Black Women Farmers
Support and amplify the voices of Black women in agriculture, creating pathways for economic independence and leadership in the farming sector.

Enhance Community Health
and Wellness
Provide access to fresh, locally grown, and nutrient-dense foods, improving food security and community health.

Educational Outreach and Advocacy
Conduct workshops, seminars, and community events to educate the public on the benefits of regenerative agriculture and sustainable living.

Economic Development
Develop and market high-quality agricultural products, such as herbal teas, fresh produce, and wellness products, creating new economic opportunities for Black women farmers. Demonstrate the business case for greater adoption of regenerative farming

The Black Women Regenerative Farming Project envisions a future where regenerative agricultural practices are the norm, not the exception. By leveraging the expertise and passion of Green Heffa Farms, Farmer Jawn, and Little Washington Growing Group, the project aims to create a model of sustainable farming that can be replicated across the country. This initiative not only addresses environmental challenges but also tackles social and economic inequities, fostering a more just and resilient food system.

Green Heffa Farms
Owner: Clarenda "Farmer Cee" Stanley
Location: Liberty, North Carolina

Focus: Specializes in growing medicinal plants and herbs for the farm's vertically scaled brand herbal teas and wellness products.
Contribution: The nation's first Black owned farm to attain Certified B Corp status, Green Heffa Farms has become a recognized leader in herbal plant production, entrepreneurship, and sustainable farming.

Little Washington Growing Group

Focus: Sustainable vegetable production and community farming.
Contribution: Little Washington Growing Group fosters community engagement through farming, offering educational programs and workshops on sustainable agriculture. They work closely with local residents to promote food sovereignty and environmental awareness.

Focus: Regenerative Urban Farming and AgroForestry Exploration
Contribution: Contributes to the local community by integrating regenerative farming practices with artistic and agricultural education. Focusing on creating a sustainable urban farm that not only grows fresh produce but also offers hands-on learning experiences in farming, gardening, and agroforestry. Porte NOIRE Gardens fosters food sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.
